Fleur-de-Lis Sterling Silver Skull & Snake Ring
This signet-style sterling silver ring features a detailed raised design of the front of a skull against a smooth, oval black background and surrounded by a ouroboros symbol. The shank features a decorative pattern of laurel leaves on each side looping around a raised fleur-de-lis and up along the edge of the band. The fleur-de-lis lies against a black, hammered background. The design is distinctively textured, three-dimensional and convex—the hollow back reduces the weight of the ring so that it's comfortable to wear and reduces material costs. The ring has a bright finish, oxidized to highlight its rich texture.
The ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a snake swallowing its own tail, is thought to signify infinity and the cycle of birth and death. The fleur-de-lis symbol, associated with European, and particularly with French, nobility, appears in countless coats of arms and other official, regal or familial regalia. The symbol is a stylized version of a lily, where three petals thought to represent the three social estates of the medieval period: the nobility, the clergy and the commoner.
